If you find yourself with some extra time, why not hit some of the museums and sights in the area? First of all of course the German National Museum! Below please find the links to some interesting places.
Please note that many museums will be closed on Mondays, so if you plan to extend your stay, come a day or two early to the event. And do check the web sites of the museums you want to visit, their opening hours in January might be different from the summer hours.

Between Nürnberg and the site: Cadolzburg Castle (closed on Mondays)
About 50 min drive from the site: Rothenburg ob der Tauber is definitively worth a visit! And the Medieval Crime & Justice Museum is world famous: gruesome, scary or just: highly informative (open every day).
The Frankonian Open Air Museum is situated halfway between Rothenburg ob der Tauber and the site (closed on Mondays).
