How to get there

Getting to Site

Travel update:

Unfortunately the train strike is on. It is disruptive, but not a total stand still. About 1/4 of the long distance trains are still running, the local ones are hit & miss. We are happy to offer pick-up in Nuernberg.

If you get stuck in your travels, please get in touch with Master Aethestan at +49 157 73743115‬ and we will find a solution.

International Airports:

Nearest airport is Nuremberg (Nürnberg or NUE), which is used by some of the budget airlines and offers direct flights to London, Amsterdam, Vienna, and Sofia (and of course lots of other places).  If that doesn't work for you, alternatives are Frankfurt (FRA, better choice if taking the train) and Munich (München or MUC, better choice if getting a rental car). But DO check the option of flying into NUE via FRA or MUC - when you figure in the cost of train tickets and extra travel time, a stop in FRA or MUC might be a worthwhile option.

By car it takes about 55 min from Nuremberg Airport and approx. 2 hours from Frankfurt and Munich, depending on traffic & time of day.

From the Nuremberg Airport it will take approx. 55 min by train to "Bahnhof, Neustadt (Aisch)", please get your tickets for the local public transport in advance on https://www.vgn.de/en/tickets/ or buy them on the day at the train stations.

Taking the train from the airports in Frankfurt or Munich, find your best way to "Neustadt(Aisch)Bahnhof" on the Deutsche Bahn website. It will take you approx. 2.5 - 3.5+ hours, depending on your connections. In Munich you will have to take a tram from the airport to the main train station, this part of the trip is included in the Deutsche Bahn trip.

We will help with arranging transport between the train station Neustadt a. d. Aisch and the site, which is a 10 km drive.

Travelling by Train:

Find your best way to the the Neustadt an der Aisch train station, which is listed as "Neustadt(Aisch)Bahnhof" on the Deutsche Bahn website.

We will help with arranging transport between the train station Neustadt a. d. Aisch and the site. The taxi trip costs approx. 25 Euro. Depending on the availability of drivers we may organize taxis.

Additional information for anyone looking into train travel: "the local station is definitely not accessible! Both ways we had to get all the luggage down one set of stairs and up another to get from and to the train, and we couldn’t find an elevator (on that platform it would be fairly obvious if there was one). I never pack more than I can carry, so I only got a wee bit sweaty with my 20+ kg suitcase, but if you have eg bad knees or can’t carry your wheeled suitcase for longer distances and travel alone, you may not want use the Neustadt(Aisch) station. The train is also a bit higher up than the platform, so you have to get your luggage maybe 15 -20 cm up to get in.

Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof and Nürnberg airport subway station (“U” is what you need to look for) have elevators, they are fine, and the trains are more level with the platform, too. If you purchase a ticket on the VGN app to go from the airport to Neustadt, it’s valid for at least three hours. This means that while it can only be purchased just before leaving, you can hop onto the first best underground and spend a longer time at the main station, you don’t have to wait for the exact connection the app suggests (which gives you more time to change trains and allows for anomalies). And the same thing on the way back, too, don’t worry about missing that exact U Bahn train, there’s always a next one fairly soon."
